This hands-on workshop is designed for the dentist that wants to take more control of their restorative practice by maximizing their skills with direct composites. The presentation will highlight and demonstrate traditional, and non-traditional, uses of direct composite for anterior restorations. The presentation will review the materials and techniques necessary to deliver life-like, invisible anterior composite restorations. From Class IV's to the full composite veneer, the program will review the steps to create minimally invasive, beautiful restorations. Important considerations for canine substitution and peg-lateral cases will be reviewed in detail. Participants in the course will practice the step-by-step techniques to create beautiful and natural appearing composite veneers. Utilizing dentin and enamel shade composites, layering steps will be taught and practiced during the hands-on course. Opaquers and tints will be used to maximize the esthetic effects of the composite veneers. Finally, contouring, shaping and polishing will be practiced to help the practitioner gain confidence with their anterior direct resin restorations.

Course Objective:

The participants will master the skills needed to create a seamless composite veneer that blends with the arch form and blends to the surrounding dentition.

The Participant will learn:

- the step-by-step techniques that work – layering techniques to create life-like esthetics for direct resin restorations

- The role of dentin composites and opaquers to block out shine thru

- Polishing techniques – how to make your composite restorations vibrant!

- Treatment strategies to ensure cosmetic and functional success with anterior bonding cases.


Dr. Dennis B. Hartlieb

Dr. Dennis Hartlieb is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and maintains a full-time practice committed to cosmetic and restorative dentistry in the Chicago suburb of Glenview, Illinois. Dr. Hartlieb is an instructor at the Center for Esthetic Excellence in Chicago and is formerly an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Marquette University School of Dentistry in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Dr. Hartlieb is an Accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AAACD), and a member of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (AAED), the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry (AARD), the American Dental Association, the American College of Dentists, and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.
