Dr. Setareh Lavasani

Dr. Setareh Lavasani is a Board certified Oral & Maxillofacial Radiologist. She is a Full-time Associate Professor on Tenure Track and the Director of Oral Radiology & Advanced Imaging at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Dental Medicine in Pomona, California. She earned her specialty certificate and master’s degree in dental Diagnostic Sciences/Oral Radiology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio,Texas. Dr. Lavasani is an internationally recognized educator in topics related to CBCT imaging applications, diagnostic interpretation, digital imaging, Radiation biology and safety. She is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists (ICD) and has earned a Fellowship at the Southern California Academy of Oral Pathologists.

CBCT in 2024: AN UPDATE ON THE APPLICATIONS, LIMITATIONS AND SHIELDING GUIDELINES OF 3D IMAGING IN TODAY'S DENTAL PRACTICE

This session will cover the basic principles and views of a CBCT scan and the applications of CBCT scan in different clinical scenarios, including the utilization of CBCT in implant planning, Endodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics, TMJ abnormalities, pathology evaluation. Updated information related to principles of radiation biology and dental radiology protection policies are discussed.

 

Learning outcome:

  • Be familiar with the basic concept of CBCT image formation and classic CBCT views and their uses.
  • Identify clinical scenarios where a CBCT could add value to the diagnostic process in implant planning, sinus evaluation, Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics and TMJ evaluation.
  • Become familiar with biological effects of ionizing radiation on living tissues and the evidence behind the updated dental imaging shielding guidelines.
