R2C: THE ROOT TO CROWN APPROACH - EVIDENCE BASED RESTORATION OF ENDODONTICALLY TREATED TEETH

Presented by:

Endodontics today offers great opportunities in terms of simplicity and predictability of results.

Today we can rely on a new approach based on reduced tooth structure removal so to leave more sound dentine in the restorative section of the tooth, and still achieve ideal endodontic treatment.

The new instruments, the new ways of irrigating canals, three-dimensional obturation offer a reliable way of treating teeth with a pulpal involvement in an easy and predictable way.

Post-endodontic restoration shows problems and limitations which are very well known. Residual space geometry is not ideal for materials commonly used.

Modern adhesives offer the chance to have better performance in restoration of teeth whether they are vital or non-vital.

A number of evidence states the importance of the coronal restoration of endodontically treated teeth in order to obtain the reestablishment of the system.

The choice of using a post or not is driven by the restoring plan based on the tooth type and involvement.

Today’s restorative dentistry on endodontically treated teeth is based on modern adhesives and modern composites; yet it has to face a number of problems that will be analyzed through this lecture: treatment plan in relationship to the remaining structure in anterior and in posterior teeth, kind of composite and adhesive in relation of the type of restoration adopted and correct behaviour in cases color is an issue, what kind of material to be used in case of full crowns and how to obtain the best performance.

Objectives:

  • Have clear view of the restoring plan in relationship to the tooth
  • Clarify the correct use and need of posts
  • Have a simple approach to the final restoration.
